Hi, all! Sorry we haven't been as consistent in our communications recently. As I explained to Dr. Earl and Mildren today, since we've been home from the hospital, caring for Debbie is a much more time-consuming matter than before. She is doing so much better, it's true; but it takes a lot to keep her physical environment in the kind of shape to aid in her recovery. That's my long-winded way of saying that we clean a lot, and do lots of laundry. Put like that, it doesn't sound so time-consuming... but it is.
As Mom reported, all the news from clinic was good. Debbie's delighted to be back to her pre-transplant weight - and going off the lasix is a big bonus. Hopefully that means no more waking up 3 or 4 times a night. Also, that should help her overtaxed kidneys a lot.
Her platelets went from 55 last week to 84 this week! That confirms that she is officially producing her own platelets, which is phenomenal at this stage. Lots of BMT recipients continue to need platelets for months after their transplants.
Val left for home today, and Debbie went to the airport with me to drop him off. She enjoys getting out of the apartment, even though that means she has to stay in the car with her mask on. There are still some decent fall-foliage trees in the city, and we're long-time tree-lovers.
We went to the Walgreen's drive-thru to pick up med refills, then to the post office so Debbie could mail a letter to Mikal, then Debbie sat in the car while I ran in to get her some special, no petroleum lip balm. She was completely exausted when we got home, and took a long nap before evening meds and a lovely dinner of apple slices with peanut butter.
No throwing up today, which was terrific, too. She tried to skip a dose of ativan yesterday, but threw up an hour later, so the docs say to stay on it for a while longer.
Jim is coming to see me this weekend, and I'm so glad! I really miss him, and he's been so great about me being here with Debbie. He'll be a huge help, too. He really undertands the kind of care that Debbie needs, and he'll be a real boost for her emotionally. Chelsea will be here, too, and that's always good for Debbie. She's bringing new video of Cora, which is like Christmas for Debbie.
I plan on going home for a week in December, to work and meet my new grandson, and reacquaint myself with my boys and their kids. Dr. Earl, Mildred and Roseann have been so great and supportive to us here. We love and appreciate them so much for their selfless hard work and care. Honestly, I can't imagine how I could have been here for Debbie if Dr. hadn't been willing to allow me to be gone for so long.
I think I'm going home the week of December 3rd, but it depends on Linda's schedule; because she's going to be here with Debbie and Mom while I'm gone. She's so busy and has so many responsibilities with her family and work, but she's so willing to be here when we need her. We're so blessed to have our famillies!
It's late and I'm going to bed.
Love and thanks to you all - Lori
